G.A.L.S. ("Getting Along Like Sisters") is a group of
maturing (middle age) women, both single and married, who like a ladies night
out on the second Friday of each month. They get together for fun and
fellowship in a variety of activities such as dinner, concerts, movies,
tours, or parlor games.
J.O.Y. ("Just Older Youth") is a group of adults, all
of whom are old enough to be AARP members, who usually gather on the third
Thursday of the month for meals, games and outings. These events provide fun
and fellowship for the members while strengthening the church family bond
between them.
Men’s Breakfasts take place the third Saturday of each
month, starting at 8:00 and lasting as long as they choose. They have had
special guests, but often the group of varying ages simply enjoys that time
together, as well as the food cooked by ladies of the church.
MUSIC MINISTRIES The Chancel Choir, under the direction
of Jason Martin, sings for most 10:15 a.m. Sunday worship services and on
special occasions appropriate to the church year, except for the summer
months, during which it takes a break.
The Chancel Choir sings a diverse repertory ranging from traditional
to contemporary, including gospel and jazz. All who enjoy singing and/or
offering praise with musical instruments are invited to participate.
Also under Jason’s direction is the
Praise Band that leads music during Wednesday Worship and offers special
music on select Sunday mornings. The
Handbell Choir, under the leadership of Lynette Milles, is a part of Sunday
worship as scheduled.
FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN WOMEN consists of three
groups. Rebekah Circle meets once a month from
September through June at 7:30 p.m. at the home of a hostess. Deborah circle meets on the second Tuesday
of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the home of the hostess. Miriam
Circle meets quarterly at 10:30 a.m. in the
church Quiet Room. Circle meetings are
a time of fellowship, study, worship, and monthly service projects. These projects serve a variety of needs in
the local area and often work in cooperation with other worthwhile
organizations and other congregations.
CARING NEEDLES meets the third Monday of each month to
sew and have fellowship. Using fabric and yarn donated by members of the
congregation, they are sewing lap robes, bibs, wheelchair and walker pockets,
as well as knitting shrugs that will be given to a nursing home for use by
its residents.
TRANSPORTATION is offered by volunteers from the congregation
to those in our congregation who are in need of it.
ST. LOUIS SQUARE DANCE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
(SSDEC) meets each Thursday
night beginning in September and going through May. It is an opportunity for fun, fellowship
and exercise.
Among the agencies that we support with budget and volunteer hours are
the following:
T.E.A.M., a local service to the hungry and homeless
Habitat for Humanity
Meals on
Wheels
In addition to these ministries, Florissant Valley
Christian Church serves the community as a polling place.
